Lithium-ion is widely used to store electricity and batteries are an energy storage technology that contains chemicals to absorb and release energy as and when required known as battery energy storage systems.
Renewable energy generations are coupled with batteries to store renewable energy during low demand and release the energy during peak demand.
The benefits of using Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or large-scale battery storage (LSBS) are that it offers flexibility and faster response. BESS also helps maintaining stabilisation of the gird as it can be turned on and off within seconds.
